Great Business have Great Pitches

Very few if any “Great Companies” are accidents. They take time, planing, market research, and lots and lots of execution. The Pitches for these companies are no exception. They take the same time and commitment. I was turned on to Pitch Camp, a part of StartupLounge, by Josh Watts. Your pitch is how people are first introduced to your company, and many times you. So you have to have this down. It has to be easy to understand, simple, short and effective.

I would suggest signing up for the Pitch Camp, it is free, and very helpful. I met with Scott Burkett, (who along with Michale Blake, puts on Pitch Camp) and we went over the pitch for Mechanixloop.com this morning.

Here is what we have so far. Conversational Pitch: So this is not supposed to be run off at once but part of your initial conversation with your potential customer.

Intro:

Hi, ————. Founder of Mechanixloop.com

Describe:
Mechaxloop.com is a free website which helps auto repair centers take advantage of online word of mouth, allowing them to manage their reputation and increase sales.

(Revised to: Mechanixloop.com is a free website which helps automotive repair centers to manage what people say about them on the internet. Allowing them to take advantage of “word of mouth” for more effective advertising and helping them to protect their reputations online.)

Hook:

There are over 1 million automotive related searches per month on the internet. However word of mouth is still the best form of advertising. Now with Mechanixloop.com you can show those million potential customers online “word of mouth”. Just Imagine being able to show those million potential customers the great things people have said about your shop, and the effect it would have on your reputation and your bottom line.

(Revised to: Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising. Mechanixloop allows you to leverage “word of mouth” with the more than 1 million automotive searches on the internet each month. We make it possible for someone in your town to search the internet and find your shop and see all of the good things people have to say about you.)

Close:

The great thing about mechanixloop.com is that it is free for both your potential customers and auto repair centers.

Revenue is generated from advanced features you can sign up for on the website.

We will be launching our website, next week. Is this something you would be interested in learning more about?

    Hi Matt,

I think the pitch works out great untill the last part. In the last part you are giving your potetial customer the oppurtunity to say NO. So, what if he does? Your done.

    If this was my pitch I would end it with another question. Something like;

    - What has your company done so far to distinguish itself from the competition trough free web based publicity…

So now he is going to tell his story so you can take note of his other activities. When he says nothing that would be great. There are no negative feelings from the past what so ever. You can come up with a second pitch. I would then go for a customer or differentation (with payed advertisement) pitch.

For the rest it is just great, you put exclusivity and urgency just in the right place!

    Cheers,
    Bart
